This fall, the team behind Hudson dining destination Kitty’s expands next door with The Caboose, a dynamic, 6,500-square-foot, carbon-neutral events space housed in a 19th-century former coal barn. Flooded with light, the fully climatized, solar-powered space can accommodate events for up to 300, with an Eastern wall of sliding glass that opens to a sprawling, tree-filled green space for outdoor gatherings. The building also houses the soon-to-open location of Kitty's natural wine and spirits shop, Grapefruit Wines (formerly a short walk up on Warren Street), effectively creating a central Kitty's "campus" of food & beverage offerings just steps from the Hudson River.
THE SPACE
On every single one of our Architectural projects these last 2 years or so I have been asked “what are those sticks on the windows - we cannot have those - they block the view”. “They are adding cost” “they are making a waterproofing problem” “they must be glued on and the glue will fail”. I try and explain their significance....i cannot explain breathing or walking...eating very well....”because you will die if you do not have them! Ahhhhh! ”. Everyone laughs - they are cut. It has put me in a state of deep despair.
“Champagne is for filling the gaps. It’s good for the afternoon to keep things going. White wine, I think, is the best way to remind yourself how good red is.”
PARTY WITH US
Other steakhouses can drive themselves crazy over internal temperatures. At Sammy’s, the meat will be cooked. If you have something more specific in mind, if you want it medium or black and blue, then write your request on a sheet of paper, tear it into small pieces and throw them into the air when the piano player sings “Happy Birthday.”
